The events on August 14, 2008

After the girls gymnastics all around finals I attempted to go to bed early (a little before 10 pm). At approximately 10:30, Yael Naim's in all of her happy awesomeness started singing "New Soul" via my iPhone and I realized that this was an incoming call and (thankfully) not a premature wake up alarm. I rolled over to see Andrew's picture and I thought, "this is either really bad or really good... either way, I'm fucking sleeping."

I pick up the phone and muster the ungroggiest "hello" I can and he tells me that he just got a 3G iPhone. I still tried to sound enthusiastic and provided a simple, "awesome." He then said, "oh yeah, and I'm engaged. "

I'm pretty sure that was followed by joyful screaming and some (admittedly uncalled for) bitching about not knowing beforehand and him not getting it on video as promised. All excitement aside, I was still half awake and needed to go back to bed, so I got the real story the following day.

Roll back the clock a few hours and star wipe to Alki beach...

Andrew and Michelle were in the area to celebrate Michelle's new Hall Director position. After dinner they strolled along the beach and eventually sat down for a bit. The evening was gorgeous, they were already celebrating something wonderful and Michael Phelps had just won his 6th gold... er, I guess they didn't care about that at the time, but I did... anyway...

The pair of them have this super sweet routine that they very frequently act out... , you're the best thing that ever happened to me, blah blah blah, ... Followed by lots of kissing and hugging and, of course, the ring being slipped on her finger.

To be honest, it was a very private moment and I'm sure it we'll all get front row views of this at the wedding. Here is my first picture of the newly engaged couple. What's that, you want to see the rock? Yeah, *that* I insisted be sent to me as soon as possible. Here's the pic:

Love it!
