My Version of Lent

According to Wikipedia, "the purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer." I believe in my innate desire to be a control freak. This applies to many minute, random things in my life including, but not by any means limited to, keeping fingerprints off of my monitor, color coding the clothing in my closet and categorizing, then alphabetizing my CDs and DVDs.

There is one time of the year where I get to force myself to do things I don't really love doing (eating "right" coupled with exercise), but fulfills my sick obsession with control while providing great results: 3 months before Vegas. This time, I'm threw in a curve ball by cutting caffeine also and may throw in another by cutting alcohol.

How successful am I? Well, I have had minimal levels of caffeine having had no more than one shot of espresso about three times since about mid-February. For someone who works for a coffee company, I'd say that's pretty damn good. I have also had some sort of physical activity almost every day this month averaging at about 1 1/2 hrs a day. My arms are starting to look weird and bulky, but I still can't do more than 10 "guy" push-ups at a time.

As for the other curve ball, I got sick (for the third time this year, mind you) this past weekend and haven't had anything to drink since about last Thursday. I think I'm going to see how long I can go. Plus I won't be consuming those empty calories from the deliciousness that is beer. San Francisco would be rough, but I think I can do it.
