This is the fourth time this calendar year year I have had a cold, so I'm just assuming I have some sort of immune difficiency disorder that is going to kill me... In an effort to not offend anyone who may have a real disease, I've been telling everyone I have the plague.
While I no longer have the benefit of missing school days for being sick, I have actually found a positive side to all of this. In my current role, I occasionally need to talk to snippy or snobby people who are all much nicer to me when they hear I have a cold. It makes it so much easier to say things like, "sorry, your mother's shares were probably stolen by the state of California" whe people respond, "oh, that's okay, you take care of yourself..." One guy actually had me run through some of my symptoms and provided recommendations.

Grilled cheese and tomato sandwich with bowl of ramen noodles, once a day until symptoms improve. Ice cream in the evenings for morale.
